Policy Debate at U of
The U of Chicago has a reputation for being intellectual, highfalutin,
conservative, and cold. We focus on the

Policy debate is an exciting activity that rewards research, logic, and critical thinking skills. At many schools, it is less an extracurricular activity than a way of life. Our team is very different: we are completely student-run, and we realize that everyone here is too busy to make debating into a full-time job. In short, we're a group of people who enjoy hanging out, traveling, and debating together. We rely on being smart and good at debating, rather than being excessively prepared, to win rounds. This works pretty well unless we run up against a team that is smart, good at debating, and excessively prepared. Basically, if you want to win the National Debate Tournament, this is not the right team for you. If you want to hang out with friends, have a good time debating, and be reasonably successful (we do win local tournaments and qualifying for the NDT isn't out of the question) then we'd love to have you aboard.
Our current meeting time, at least through the end of Fall quarter, is Tuesdays at 9:15 PM. We meet in the Bartlett Student Activities Office, which is in the hallway to the left of the stairs leading up to the dining hall.
